Prayer During Travel

The five daily prayers in islam should be offered at a certain time when a muslim is at home or is not traveling. However, some times it is necessary to travel from place to place or from one country to another.during the travel perhaps there are no facilities for preparing oneself for prayer, or the timing of the the travel will interfere with the proper performance of prayer.

Islam, therefore, allow a muslim, when travelling from one place to another, to join two prayers together at one time, such as zuhur and ‘asr at the time zuhur or ‘asr. But if a muslim decides to join two prayers together at the letter time, he should have the intention during the time of the first prayer of joining the two prayers later.

The same permission is also given to muslim to join the sunset and the night prayers whilst travelling. A muslim has the right to join the two prayers together either at the time of the beginning of the first prayer or the time of the latter. But there are some conditions which must be fulfilled, the travelling must be of a certain length and must have a worthy purpose.

In order to make is simpler for a muslim to perform his prayer duties, it is permission to offer zuhur and ‘asr, each of two raka’ats instead of four, and also the night prayer, ‘isha’. These  are the ordinary cases in which islam allow us to shorten prayers and join them together. But in some other cases permission is also given to join two prayers together, such as illnes or when heavy rain prevents people from getting to the mosque as usual, or when there is excessive heat. These are sufficient reasons.

The previous permission to join prayers together and to shorten them has been taken from the verse of the holy qur’an which says : “when you travel throughout the world, there is no blame attached to you if you shorten your prayer for fear that the unbeliever mat attack you, for the unbelievers are born enemies into you”.

According to this verse, it seems that, if there is no fear during the travel, there is no need to shorten the prayer, and this was commented upon by omar, the second caliph, who was asked why god gave us permission to shorten and join together prayers. Omar replied that he too had wondeered the same thing and said : “ then i mentioned this to the prophet (peace be upon him), his answer was that this must be considered as one of the mercies of god: we have to accept it”.

Sholat Dalam Perjalanan

Shalat lima waktu di islam harus dilaksanakan pada waktu tertentu, ketika seorang muslim sedang di dalam rumah atau tidak dalam bepergian. Beberapa kali ia perlu untuk melakukan perjalanan dari satu tempat ke tempat lain atau dari satu negara ke negara yang lain. Terkadang perjalanan mungkin tidak mempersiapkan diri untuk melakukan sholat.

Oleh karena itu di dalam islam, dibolehkan bagi seorang muslim ketika bepergian dari satu tempat ke tempat lain, untuk menggabungkan sholat dalam satu waktu, seperti zuhur dan ‘Asar pada saat zuhur atau‘asr. Tetapi jika seorang muslim memutuskan untuk menggabungkan sholat. Namunj, ia harus melakukan niat terlebih dahulu ketika hendak melakukan sholat jama’ atau ketika akan menggabungkan sholat zuhur dengan ‘asr.

Izin yang sama juga diberikan kepada muslim untuk bergabung matahari terbenam dan shalat malam sementara dalam perjalanan. Seorang muslim memiliki hak untuk menggabungkan sholatnya ketika ia dalam kondisi bepergian. Tapi ada beberapa kondisi yang harus dipenuhi ketika melakukan perjalanan, yaitu perjalanan yang ditempuh harus panjang dan tentu harus memiliki tujuan yang berharga.

Dalam rangka untuk membuat lebih sederhana untuk muslim untuk melakukan tugas sholatnya, yaitu izin untuk men jama’ zuhur dan ‘asr, masing-masing dua rakaat bukan empat, dan juga shalat malam Isya’. Ini adalah kasus biasa di mana islam memungkinkan kita untuk mempersingkat sholat dan dengan menggabungkan sholatnya. Namun dalam beberapa kasus lain izin juga diberikan untuk menggabungkan dengan dua sholat bersama-sama, seperti ketika hujan lebat yang menghalangi orang untuk ke masjid seperti biasa, atau ketika ada panas yang berlebihan. Ini adalah alasan yang cukup.

Sebelumnya juga diperbolehkan untuk menggabungkan sholat dan untuk mempersingkat. Menurut suci al-qur’an yang mengatakan: “ketika Anda melakukan perjalanan di seluruh dunia, maka tidak ada dosa yang melekat pada Anda jika Anda mempersingkat sholat anda karena takut bahwa percaya terhadap serangan Anda, untuk orang-orang kafir yang lahir musuh ke dalam diri Anda”.

Menurut ayat ini, tampaknya, jika tidak ada rasa takut selama perjalanan, tidak ada kebutuhan untuk mempersingkat sholat, dan ini dikomentari oleh umar, khalifah kedua, yang ditanya mengapa Tuhan memberi kami izin atau memperbolehkan hambanya untuk mempersingkat dan menggabungkan sholat-sholatnya. Umar menjawab bahwa ia juga bertanya-tanya hal yang sama dan mengatakan: “kemudian saya sebutkan ini untuk nabi (saw), dan jawabannya adalah bahwa ini harus dianggap sebagai salah satu dari kemurahan Tuhan: dan kita harus menerimanya” .

"From the above passage it can be concluded that, Allah Almighty allows us to join prayers while traveling. With the provisions or minimum limit that can be done to menjama 'prayer is approximately 81 km.And for a woman who was istihadloh, while traveling the procedure of praying that is one time ablution to immediately perform the prayer".
